Living on Electric Avenue - Living with an electric car of the future means more than getting a head turn from the opposite sex or a nod of approval from your local neighborhood green-loving hipster as you cruise down the street. It also means making a lifestyle change, and upgrading your home to deal with your electric car’s nightly power cravings. In the second part of our two-part interview with engineering editor Dennis Simanaitis of Road & Track magazine, we talk about whether or not 14 hours is too long to wait in between charges of your electric car. Dennis goes on to reveal that if you upgrade your home charging outlets to 220 volts, you can cut your charge times by half, making the overnight charge a perfect fit for daily drivers. We also discover that if seven to eight hours are too long for you to wait, you can always pony up for a three-phase, 220-volt industrial charger that can get you back up to an 80 percent charge on your car’s batteries in only a mind-blowing half an hour.
